Main Act - Julian Taylor Band
Toronto-based, Julian Taylor Band is a culmination of long-lasting friendships and a collective of accomplished musicians, all fluent in different musical cultures and in virtually every genre. Under front-man Julian Taylor’s direction, the band consistently delivers soulful performances and strives to re-contextualize “soul music,” not as another genre that can be put into a box defined by racial precedent or sound requirements, but as a medium that truly speaks to the soul. The result is solid, unabashedly positive performances of soul, rock and R&B fusion – or rather, a form of modern rhythm and blues infused with rock ‘n’ roll.
Opening Act - Simone Denny
She is known worldwide as the 5-time Juno Award Winning powerhouse voice of Canadian pop-dance legends LOVE Inc. (‘Superstar’, ‘Broken Bones’, ‘Here Comes The Sunshine’). Her collaborative work spawned the global hit theme for the TV program ‘Queer Eye For The Straight Guy’ (‘All Things Just Keep Getting Better)’; and now Simone Denny is moving forward again, this time with her debut solo album, the retro-soul infused ‘The Stereo Dynamite Sessions Vol. 1’ (Released in Canada October 16, 2015, via Stereo Dynamite Recordings / Universal Music Canada.)
“I grew up singing along to old Soul and Rock And Roll records with my parents around the house. That’s how I learned to sing,” says Simone. “Now, finally having the opportunity to create an album that reminds me of that wonderful time in my life, is something truly special to me.”
Melding poetry, mystery, darkness and light along with an extensive knowledge of the history and traditions of blues music, makes Paul Reddick one of the most popular figures on the blues-roots music scene today. For over 25 years he’s been writing and performing his eclectic brand of blues. Paul Reddick doesn’t mince words either: “I play original material, blues-based folk, funk, rock. I have 8 CD’s, 4 Juno Nominations, 7 Maple Blues Awards. I have a new record coming out in May on Stony Plain records”. Juno nominated Ride the One – Blues is a Beautiful Landscape was released 2016.
The Stephen Stanley Band formed in the spring of 2015. Just prior to that, Stephen, an ex-founding member of Toronto band Lowest of the Low had been playing duo-based acoustic gigs with guitarist, Chris Bennett. The duo then added Gregor Beresford (Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Tom Cochrane) on drums and finally, bassist Chris Rellinger to round out the lineup. The band is a vehicle for Stephen’s songwriting and plans to record its debut record in the late winter of 2016. Recently, the band just completed a January 2016 residency at C’est What? In Toronto.
